5 Day Trips From Naples To Plan This Spring
With spring just around the corner and our seasonal residents bidding us ado, it’s a great time to plan a day trip from Southwest Florida! If you’re ready to hit the road (or water), check out these spots, all clocking in under 2 hours from Naples.
Everglades National Park
Covering 1.5 million acres of protected wetlands and wilderness across South Florida, you don’t have to drive far to reach Everglades National Park. The question is, what’s on the agenda? From exhilarating airboat rides and leisurely kayaking, to a stroll down the boardwalk while birding, there are countless recreational opportunities in the Everglades.
Take a step back in time and get a taste of the Florida Keys (without the crowds) with a day trip to the tiny fishing village of Matlacha. This colorful little town of just 800 residents embodies the spirit of Florida with several local resident artists paying homage to the state’s love of all things whimsical, tropical, and bright. Be sure to hit Bert’s Bar & Grill for a waterside lunch!
Head north to Sarasota, to the home of John & Mable Ringling and the start of “The Greatest Show On Earth.” The Ringling State Art Museum of Florida sits on the couple’s 66 acres of waterfront property. Now, visitors can tour the home of the Ringlings: the Ca’ d’Zan – a mansion designed in the Venetian Gothic style of the palazzi in Venice, Italy – as well as the homes expansive gardens, and a 21-gallery museum containing John Ringling’s massive personal art collection.
From Captiva, hop aboard a ferry and head out to Cayo Costa, an isolated Florida State Park only reachable by boat. With miles of white, pristine, untouched shoreline, the island is truly paradise found. Spend the day shelling, snorkeling, swimming, fishing, birding… or just chilling. If you’re not ready to leave, the park offers primitive campsites and cabins for an unforgettable night listening to the waves and stargazing, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
If a secluded beach isn’t your vibe, Miami awaits after a quick drive across Alligator Alley. Take a walking tour of the Wynwood arts district, catch a celebrity signing at the world-famous Nikki Beach, and don’t miss the historic Art Deco District. For shopping, art, architecture, and dining, check out the Miami Design District. When it’s time to eat, grab some Greek at Santorini or the city’s best authentic Cuban food at Versailles in Little Havana. Love the idea of a day trip to Miami, but hate the traffic? The best way to see the city in style is from the back of a scooter rental!
