SWFL Building and Interior Decorating Trends for 2019
Just like clothes and hairstyles, architecture and interior design go through fashion trends too. From the bright colors of the ‘60s to the harvest gold of the ‘70s to the stainless steel appliances of the 2000s, homes have gone through many trends, showing how versatile and exciting our houses can be! If you’re planning on building a new home, remodeling your current home, or buying a fixer-upper, here are the current trends to watch for in SWFL building and interior design.
- Statement Ceilings
Popcorn ceilings are long gone, and now you typically see a plain, smooth white ceiling. Many people have come to see that white ceiling as a blank canvas! Popular new designs include:
- Barrel ceilings: A soft arch, ideal for entryways
- Coffered ceilings: Sunken panels arranged in a checkered pattern
- Tray ceilings: A center section that is higher than the rest of the ceiling – like a sunken floor in reverse
Even if you decide to leave the shape of your ceiling alone, consider painting it a bright color or even building it out of wood. Hardwood isn’t just for floors anymore!
- Accent Walls
The idea of an accent wall isn’t new, of course, but there are some exciting new ways to go about it. Rather than simply painting one wall a different color from the rest of the room, you can consider a textured wallpaper or even a completely different material. Modern accent walls are often made from wood panels (a much different look from the paneling everyone had in the ‘80s!), glass tiles, or even metal.
- Quartz Countertops
Stone countertops are still very much in style, but more and more people are choosing man-made quartz over granite. Quartz is much less expensive than it used to be, and its consistent color and easy maintenance make it a very attractive option. Unlike granite, quartz counters do not have to be resealed, and they’re very easy to clean with just soap and water. Plus, the consistency of the color and pattern give quartz a modern, sleek look that’s very popular now.
- Bold Colors
While the particular shades have changed, color is still very popular, especially in the kitchen. The modern style is to use pops of bright color to accent the space. Colorful appliances are even coming back, and red and blue have proven to be very popular!
